Aviation

Economic engine in the north

A veritable cluster of the aviation industry has already developed around the capital city’s future Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) in the Dahme-Spreewald district. From global players to innovative medium-sized companies – this is where aircraft are maintained, engines tested, prototypes developed, and small aircraft built. There are also exciting concepts for innovative technologies and applications in the dynamic field of unmanned flight systems. This sectoral expertise is rounded off by renowned university and research institutions and training capacities.

With the Aerospace Technology Centre in Wildau, the Dahme-Spreewald district has also created a special industry hub, making a key contribution to the growth of the industry in Germany’s capital region – now the third largest aviation location in Germany with more than 100 companies and around 17,000 employees.

The interests of the aviation industry are represented in the regional aerospace industry association Berlin-Brandenburg Aerospace Alliance (BBAA e.V.) and in CURPAS e.V. (Civil Use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems).

Logistics

Optimum location for renowned companies

The central location within the European single market and the Berlin-Brandenburg conurbation also make the Dahme-Spreewald district attractive for logistics companies. Companies such as DACHSER, DHL, PAREXEL, Raben and EDEKA have already found their ideal distribution location here and benefit from the direct connection to the key north-south and east-west routes. The new Berlin Brandenburg Airport in Schönefeld, the inland port in Königs Wusterhausen and the surrounding industrial and commercial areas close to the motorway will continue to offer growth potential in the future and open up new opportunities for both young and established logistics companies.

As a member of the LogistikNetz Berlin-Brandenburg, the Dahme-Spreewald Economic Development Agency is committed to initiatives and activities that strengthen and advance the logistics industry in the long term. The next generation of talent is also assured: companies can find qualified specialists and managers on their doorstep in the logistics programme at the Wildau Technical University of Applied Sciences.

Food industry

1,000 items from the region

Due to the proximity and close cooperation between local agriculture and the processing industry, a fast-growing economic cluster with more than 90 companies has established itself in the food sector in the south of the Dahme-Spreewald district. The internationally protected umbrella brand “Spreewald” is a byword for the regional identity of the products, under which more than 1,000 items including fruit and vegetables, meat and fish products, bakery products and dairy products are already marketed.

The “Spreewald gherkin” is a classic that is known throughout Germany and is produced by the companies Spreewaldkonserve Golßen and Spreewald-Feldmann. The quality eggs from Landkost-Ei, the poultry products from the WIESENHOF Geflügel-Kontor, the organic products from the Gläserne Molkerei Münchehofe or the quality products from Golßener Fleisch- und Wurstwaren are further mouth-watering regional specialities.

The Dahme-Spreewald Economic Development Agency’s cooperation partner in the food sector is the Spreewaldverein e.V., which, as the owner of the umbrella brand Spreewald, is committed to improving living conditions, sustainably protecting the natural and cultural heritage of the Spreewald and networking the varied actors in the economic area with each other.
